Colorful Connections
Project Description
An on-site community project designed to spark interaction and dialogue among students, faculty, and staff at Miami University’s Oxford campus.
Project Problem
My design team wanted to increase the amount of Miami University student, faculty, and staff engagement with the arts. We also wanted to provide a space that facilitated interaction and broke down social barriers between faculty and students, providing participants with a time and space to take a break to create.
Project Solution
This project required a variety of deliverables. Our team designed and provided materials for an in-person pop-up art making event. The works created by participants were then collaged into a community piece, and participants were surveyed about their experience. Throughout the project journey, we designed an app in Figma to document the project, as well as record resources to allow for replication of the project.
My contributions
I participated in group discussion and brainstorming activities, organizing a moodboard based off of discussions with my teammates. I also designed a participant thank you graphic and the event poster. While participating in two of the on-site pop-up events, I spearheaded the creation of a process work Figma app prototype along with Taylor Kelley. Lastly, I worked with my team to collage the final physical deliverable, a community collage. Photos were taken by all team members.
Future Considerations
Our team pushed through conflicts and challenges to create community impact through design. In the future I would love to revisit the project and develop it further. I think that the project could be scaled up and a graphic system designed for it. If I were to do it again, I would spend more time communicating with my team members in the beginning to better align our expectations and define our roles.
